Traffic Pollution Indicator: Residential Areas of Concern
Residential congestion is not only annoying, but also produces elevated levels of unhealthy pollution where people live and breathe. By focusing on residential roads and arterials, the TPI can be used to prioritize areas in the community that would most benefit from interventions and policy enforcements.
This map shows the High and Medium TPI for the residential areas suspected to be most impacted by traffic pollution. Traffic emissions measured on these local roads may be caused by local vehicle traffic, exacerbated by congestion and idling at traffic lights. Traffic emissions can also be transported between residential areas by prevailing winds. During the monitoring period, average winds were gentle and from the southwest, varying by time of day.
