Diesel Pollution Indicator: Residential Areas of Concern
This map shows the DPI for the residential areas suspected to be impacted by diesel pollution.
Impacts on residential areas by diesel emissions may be caused by trucks driving or idling within residential areas, particularly on roads near freeways and railyards. Diesel emissions can also be transported to residential areas by prevailing winds.
In the community during the monitoring period, the winds were consistently blowing from the southwest and south. Based on this, we can infer that residential areas downwind (north and north east) of the BNSF railyard and major freeways may experience higher diesel pollution than areas farther away from these sources.
